Maidens playoff information, scenarios for other JC teams

With one game left in the district schedule and one playoff spot remaining, the Edna Cowgirls and Industrial Cobras may be facing a play-in game against each other.

The district schedule will finish on Friday when the Cobras (7-6) hosts Hallettsville (12-1). Edna (6-7) will host Palacios (2-11). Edna won their first meeting 7-4 and has a great chance to win again.

Industrial will have a much tougher task. For most of the season Hallettsville sat in the #1 spot in 3A. They have fallen lately but still sit at number 7, and they have the added motivation of needing the win to finish the season tied for the district lead.

If the Cobras can win, they will take the final playoff spot. If Edna wins and Industrial loses, they will be tied for the final spot and will need to play one more game to determine who enters the playoffs.

The Ganado Maidens (11-3) finished their district schedule Monday night by defeating Bloomington 17-0. Ganado (26-6-2 overall) will be facing Stockdale (13-11) in the bi-district playoff round. The game will be played on Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m. in Goliad. It will be a single game.

The last two games have seen a major change in the 3A baseball standings for the Cowboys and Cobras. Before they faced each other last Friday, they were tied for the final two playoff spots at 6-4. The Cobras won the meeting over the Cowboys and then won again on Tuesday, and now sit in sole possession of third place.

The Cowboys  (6-6) lost the meeting with Industrial (8-4) and then fell to Columbus on Tuesday. While that was happening, Tidehaven (7-5) won back-to-back games and moved from fifth to fourth.

Edna will finish the regular season hosting Palacios on Friday and then hosting Yoakum on Tuesday. The Cowboys need to win the final two, and get some help, in order to make the playoffs.

Industrial will also host their last two regular season games, Hallettsville on Friday and Tidehaven on Tuesday. The Cobras need one win or a Cowboys loss to lock up the third playoff spot.

Tidehaven will face Yoakum before their match-up with Industrial.

The Ganado Indians are sitting firmly in third place and can lock up the third playoff spot with a win, when they host Schulenburg on Friday. If Ganado wins that game, the final district game of the year, at Louise, won’t make a difference in playoff seeding, however, if the Indians lose to Schulenburg, they will fall into a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots and then winning the Louise game will be a necessity.
