County softball enters second round

On Tuesday night, the Edna Cowgirls defeated Palacios 7-4, the Ganado Maidens defeated Schulenburg 8-0, and the Industrial Cobras fell to Hallettsville 10-0.

For Edna and Industrial, it marked the end of the first round of district play, and for the Maidens, it was the first game of the second round.

Ganado, currently ranked #3 in state, are the closest to locking up a playoff spot at this point.

Along with the Maidens victory, Weimar defeated Shiner last night, putting Weimar and Ganado in a tie for the district lead at 6-1, with Shiner in third at 5-2. Schulenburg sits in the four slot at 3-4.

Edna is tied with Yoakum in the third and final playoff spot at 4-3. The Cowgirls will face Yoakum in their next game. Edna won the first match-up by one run.

The Cowgirls lost to Tidehaven by two runs and Columbus by one run in the first play through. Hallettsville was the lone blowout loss, but even in that game, Edna held the game very close until the Lady Brahmas last at-bat.
With a little luck, Edna could jump up the district standings the second time around.

Industrial, 3-4, currently sits in fifth, one spot out of the playoffs. As the same with Edna, only their loss to Hallettsville was a blow out, so they can turn things around as well. They have some work to do but with a little more luck, the Cobras can grab a playoff spot too.

Tidehaven is tied with Industrial in fifth place.
