In the district opening game, the Industrial Cobras defeated the Edna Cowgirls 10-0. The second time around, the Cowgirls put up a fight, but in the end came up short again, this time 8-5. The win locked up a playoff spot for the Cobras and was the 11th straight victory over Edna.

“I think this game, we came pumped up and ready to play,” Cowgirl Elizabeth Alex said. “Last time we faced them, we came out flat and this game our energy was up and we were really excited. The rivalry probably has something to do with it, but every game that we have come out flat it’s not in our favor, so we have learned that in the second round we really have to have our energy up or we not gonna play our best.”

Kylee Ressman was the Cowgirl starting pitcher and after Reagan Doyle opened up the game with a single, the Cowgirls shut them down. Lexey Mikulec answered right back, working a one, two, three top of the first. She also picked up her 100 strikeout of the season in the process.

In the top of the second, the Cobras scored the first run of the game without getting a hit. A walk, a stolen base, and a passed ball followed by an error and Industrial took a 1-0 lead.

The Cowgirls again went down in the bottom of the second and in the top of the third the Cobras added to their lead.

After a Jillian Jones walk, Tia Hart smashed a two run homer to left-center field. It was Hart’s third home run of the season. Hart also hit the grand slam that was the difference maker in the first game against Edna last season. For the Cobras, it was their ninth home run in the last four games.
