Larry And Barbara Sowell

     Larry and Barbara Sowell were High School Sweethearts, married for 60 years when they were called home by their Lord and Savior eight days apart. Barbara passed on January 23, 2024, followed by Larry on January 31 , 2024.

     Barbara Elizabeth Sowell was born on September 5, 1946 in Jackson County to Ross Thomas “R.T.” and Helen Elizabeth Tucker Bain, she was the third of five children. Larry Gene Sowell was born on August 14, 1944 in Jackson County to O.W. and Dell Whittington Sowell, the first of four children.

     Larry and Barbara were married on December 15, 1963. Together they had two children and raised their family in Edna, Texas. Barbara worked for many years for Jackson County State Bank and later for El Toro Grain Elevators. She retired to care for her youngest sister, Loraine Bain, until her death. Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother, MeMe, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many.

     Larry worked in the oilfield for years and retired from Alcoa after thirty years of service. He loved sports and coached Little League for years. Larry also played on a Softball League and Bowling League for many years. He was a loving husband, father, PawPaw, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Larry and Barbara loved traveling to Colorado and spending time with family.

     Larry and Barbara are preceded in death by their parents, Barbara’s brother and sister, Milton Bain and Loraine Bain. They are also preceded in death by brothers-in-law; Mark Anders, Frank Tresner and sister-in-law, Clara Gates, their nephew; Kacey Sowell and their beloved granddaughter; Molly Elizabeth McCormack.

     They are survived by their daughter; Tammy Sowell McCormack (Pat), son Tommy Sowell (Kris) and grandchildren; Kyle Sowell (Jessica), Megan Sowell, Brittney Sowell and Billy McCormack (Risa). They are also survived by five Great-Granddaughters and one Great- Grandson.

     Larry and Barbara are also survived by Barbara’s sisters; Nelda Siecko (Fred) and Mary Lou Anders Hunt (Wayne). Larry’s sisters and brother Brenda Theilin (Ted), Beth Grimes and Jerry Sowell, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Bain and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

     The family would also like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Sandra Kelly for her loving and compassionate care she gave to both Barbara and Larry. We would also like to thank Dr. Mehran Nezhad, the ladies at Soul Food Thursday’s and Hospice of South Texas and the Dornburg Center of Compassion for their exceptional care of both Larry and Barbara.

     The family would also like to thank Ronnie, Brenda, Jr., and Leah Latimer for being the best neighbors and always helping Mom and Dad out whenever they needed it. You were all truly Heaven Sent. We would also like to thank our father, Larry, for taking such good care of our mother while hiding his pain and illness for as long as he could from us. He is our hero!
