Karen Lynn Chytka Hahn

     Karen Lynn Chytka Hahn, of Ganado, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the age of 85. She was born on January 12, 1938, in Jackson County Texas to the late John Chytka and Irene Koester Chytka Hardin.

     Karen married the love of her life, and high school sweetheart, Billy Hahn, on March 24, 1956. This was prior to Billy leaving for the Army in Glenhausen, Germany. After Karen graduated from Ganado High School in May of 1956, she joined Billy in Germany, where he completed his second year of military service.

     After returning from Germany, Karen began working for Ganado Independent school District where she served for 30 years before her retirement.

     Karen was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, serving on the Committees of WELCA, Worship, Cool, Altar Guild and many behind the scenes services. She was talented in many areas; sewing, drawing, painting, crafting,

cooking, and decorating. Karen was a very hard worker and a beloved Matriarch. She will be missed, but never forgotten.

     Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John Chytka and Irene Chytka Hardin, her step- father, Samuel Hardin, and her beloved husband of 63 years, Billy Hahn. 

     Her surviving family includes her son, Monty Hahn and wife Jackie of Medina; daughter, Sheri Hahn Hicks and husband Tommy of Ganado. Grandchildren are Justin Hahn and wife Dana of Kerrville, Zachary Hahn of San Antonio, Erin Hahn of Fort Worth, Preston Hicks of Ganado, and Derek Hicks of Katy. Great Grandchildren are Cullen Hahn, Cora Hahn and Heidi Hicks. Cherished brothers are Craig Hardin and wife Sherrie and Robert Hardin and wife Becky, all of El Campo.

     Karen loved her nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Church Family at St. James Lutheran Church.

     Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel from 5 pm to 7 pm. Funeral Services will be Tuessday, March 7, 2023 at 10 am at St. James Lutheran Church with Pastor Rosemarie Doucette officiating, interment will follow at Ganado Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. James Lutheran Church, or Hospice of South Texas 605 E. Locust Ave., Victoria, TX 77901.

     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish, Ganado Funeral Home, 800 S. Third St., Ganado, Texas 77962, 361-771-2120.
