Joalyn Sue Smith

     Joalyn Sue Reed Smith, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born in Lamar, Kansas on May 27, 1936, to the late Merven Welsey Reed and Evelyn Hope Freeborn Reed.

     Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, and GG who will be dearly missed. Sue raised her children in Ganado, Tx, then after living briefly in Kent, WA, settled in the Houston/Katy area where she worked as an office manager for dental practices. She retired to Edna, Tx in 2008 where she became known as the Avon Lady. Sue enjoyed following her grandchildren in all of their activities. Her last year was spent in Ganado coming full circle to where it all started.

     Sue is survived by her daughter, Stacey Smith Kotlar (Larry); her sons, Steven Reed Smith (Shongh) and Todd Lloyd Smith; her grandchildren, Ross Kotlar (Gretchen), Kamryn Elliott (Derrick), Allison Kotlar, Derek Smith, and Brandon Smith and 8 Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Kay Remillard and her brother, John Wesley Reed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Merven and Hope Reed.

     Pallbearers were Derek Smith, Brandon Smith, Ross Kotlar, Derrick Elliott, Todd Smith, and Steven Smith.

     Services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, Texas. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. with Funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Deacon Ike Peterson will be officiating.

     The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Mr. Ike Peterson who was Sue’s Deacon at First Baptist Church. His visits to Sue were such a blessing. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the Ganado Nursing &  Rehab facility for the care they gave Sue during her time there.
