Gary Woodring

Gary Joseph Woodring, 58, of Pflugerville, Texas took the Lord's hand and went home on July 18, 2017. He was born on May 22, 1959 in Victoria, to Kenneth F. and Elizabeth Ann Woodring of Victoria.     After graduating from Edna High School in 1977, where he was a record-setting athlete, he attended Texas A&M University in Galveston. He graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Transportation.     Gary spent three years with the Merchant Marine Service before coming ashore and joining the Union Carbide/Dow Chemical Company where he worked in the laboratory and later in Environmental Services. He worked at the Seadrift site and recently transferred to Freeport where he finished his career.     Gary will be remembered as a kind soul and devoted family man who was an inspiration to everyone. His generosity knew no bounds. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. In addition, friends were always a very important part of his life, and he cherished them all.     One of his favorite hobbies was cooking which resulted in many tasty dishes. His passions in life included rugby and all water sports. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his brothers on family projects.     Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Patrick Woodring and Kenneth Michael Woodring.     He is survived by his parents; his wife Lisa Woodring; children, James Woodring and Megan Woodring; brothers David (Janice) Woodring, Jeff (Lois) Woodring; sister, Nancy (Gary) Carrier and sister-in-law Margaret Woodring; step children MaKenna Garcia, Courtney (Adam) Boatright, and Kristen (Tyler) Granger; six grandchildren Brooklyn, Weston, Jackson, and Emersyn Boatright, and Kadence and Kyleigh Granger. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Gary very much.     Visitation was Sunday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were Monday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Edna.     Interment immediately followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.     Pallbearers were Karl Haupt, Ed Bishop, Jim Brown, Greg Brown, Miguel Pompa, Rob Wilson, David Woodring, Jeff Woodring, and Gary Carrier.     Honorary pall bearers were Weldon Schmidt, C.A. Pruess, Tuppy Kester, J.W. Wyer, Jimmy Braunholz, Dan Stary, Hunter Thomas, Dr. E. Bowers, Dr. Kurtis Kruger, Mike Nieto, Kenneth Tones, james Bryant, Robert Fojtik, and his faithful dog Miss Miley     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Neurological Research Foundation, 1656 N. Blvd., Houston, TX 77006 or donor's choice.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.
