Robert "Bobby" Riggs Bergstrom
Robert Riggs Bergstrom, 71 of Edna, Texas earned his wings and went to his forever home on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Bobby was born on Wednesday, February 1, 1950, to Clarence “Eldred” Bergstrom, Sr. and Janis Elaine Riggs Bergstrom in Wharton, Texas and was the third of four beloved children.
After graduating from Edna High School in 1968, Bobby earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science from Texas A&I in Kingsville and returned to Edna to join his father in their family farming endeavor until 2005.
Growing up farming and ranching gave him fond interest in weather and shade trees; not a day went by that he didn’t comment on at least one of them, or find the shadiest spot to park. After retiring from farming, he went into the field of water management and chemical transfer where he employed his talents with multiple organizations in the Coastal Bend.
He officially retired in 2020 and enjoyed a multitude of hobbies including reading, gardening, and stargazing. Bobby was also an avid runner, marathoner and mule deer hunter in his younger days as well as a slight daredevil on the ski slopes. He was a fantastic welder and known to be able to fix about anything, even if it wasn’t the prettiest fix.
Bobby was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren reading, playing, spelling, cuddling, he didn’t care the activity, just loved to be with and encouraged them. He looked forward to watching them grow up to see what they would accomplish, and who they would become.
He loved them fiercely, unconditionally and patiently, and his eyes would light up at their smiles and laughter and general chaos.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Sherrie; son Christian (John); daughter Heather Bergstrom Grantham (Robert); grandchildren, Crawford, Jake, and Milby Grantham and Brylie Ericson; brother Clarence “Eldred”, Jr. (Nancy) Bergstrom, sisters Nancy Kay Bergstrom Goggans (Gene) and Betty Sue Bergstrom Shaw.
Bobby has been preceded in death by his parents. Eldred, Sr. and Janis Bergstrom, and his brother-in-law, Kenny Shaw.
Pallbearers will be, Christian Bergstrom, John Bergstrom, Robert Grantham, Thad Bergstrom, Brad Ericson and Lane Putnam.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10 am at FUMC in Edna with a visitation preceding at 9 am with Pastor Kelli Williamson officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna, next to his parents, under a very lovely shade tree. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to FUMC Edna, P. O. Box 790, Edna, TX 77957. Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N.
