Man dies in fiery crash

A collision between a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler ended a life on March 17. The crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 111 and FM 1157 near Ganado on Wednesday around 6 p.m. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, a Toyota passenger vehicle was travelling along FM 1157 and failed to observe a stop sign, causing it to strike the rear axle of the 18-wheeler. The Toyota, pinned under the wheels of the truck, was dragged around 1,500 feet before the 18-wheeler was able to stop, and the Toyota caught fire and burned. The driver of the Toyota, 72-year-old Manuel Gonzales of Bay City, was declared dead at the scene.
