Lions Camp teaches kids to deal with their disabilities

Texas Lions Camp is a residential camping facility in Kerrville that holds nine camping sessions between June and July for children with physical disabilities, Down syndrome, epilepsy, cancer, and diabetes, plus a huge medical staff at each session. Children in and around Jackson County can be sponsored by a local Lions Club to attend the camp and spend time with other children dealing with the same illnesses.

Before Kade Kubecka turned eight, going to a summer camp was out of the question because he had diabetes, and administering insulin and checking blood levels had been a daily routine. But then he and his parents, Wade and Leslie Kubecka, learned of the Texas Lions Camp and Kade had his first opportunity to broaden his horizons and meet others just like him.

The Edna Lions Club has sponsored Kade for the past three years, and the 11-year old can’t wait for this summer so he can attend again.
