Important Election Information

By Kate Brooks, Jackson County Clerk     With the 2020 General Election just around the corner on November 3rd, I wanted to inform the public of deadlines and dates, mail in ballot procedures, voting times and locations, safety protocol for voters and hopefully answer any questions voters might have about the upcoming election.     

Over the next few weeks I will provide information that is pertinent to the upcoming election.     

October 5 is the last day to register to vote. Our local Registrar is Monica Hyek Foster, Jackson County tax assessor-collector. You can contact her office at (361) 782-3473 for information or visit the office in Room 102 in the courthouse to complete the voter registration process.     

You are eligible to register to vote if:     

• You are a United States citizen;   

 • You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;     

• You are at least 17 years and 10 months old, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.   

 • You are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and     

• You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.     

This year, Jackson County will be holding the General Election jointly with the City of Edna (Districts 3, 4 and 5,) Ganado ISD (GISD Board of Trustees: Position 3, 4 and 6) and Palacios ISD (PISD Board of Trustees: Position 4, 5, 6 and 7.)     

Local Elections are as follows:

City of Edna     

District 3: Rick Boone; District 4: Michael Dodds or Elizabeth Sommerfeld; District 5: Johnny Vasquez

Ganado ISD Board of Trustees     

Place 3: Chris Hajovsky or Dwayne Taylor; Place 4: Jamie Bures or Rebecca Reid; Place 6: Susie Pape or Cindy L. Bures

Palacios ISD Board of Trustees     

Position 5: Ron Laws or Karen Botbyl; Position 6: Fabian Marroquin; Position 7: Marcos C. Aparicio

Palacios ISD Board of Trustees Special Election to fill Unexpired Term for     

Position 4: Jason Miller, Brian Busby, or Tom Warner
