Asusena VerVer Martinez

Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Asusena VerVer Martinez, 87, of Ganado went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday March 27, 2024.

Asusena was born on August 10, 1936 in Palacios, TX to Fermin P. VerVer and Otilia Dovalina VerVer. Asusena, also known as Susie, worked hard picking cotton and as a housekeeper. She watched many families children and was everyone’s “Little Mom” and grandma.

She gave 17 years of meritorious service to the state and Texas Facilities Commission in Austin, TX.  She also worked at St. Vincent De Paul in South Congress in Austin for many years. She retired from The State of Texas in March of 2008.

She is survived by her children Maria Ballin (Jesse), Miguel Martinez (Joanne) and Mario Martinez (Trina); and siblings Lilia VerVer, Isabel VerVer De La Vega (Hank), Joe VerVer, Margarito VerVer (Leonora) as well as 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Miguel Martinez, and siblings Pablo VerVer, Francisco VerVer, Paulino Dovalina VerVer, Indalecio VerVer, Macaria Alanis, Andrea Alvarez, and Maclovia De La Garza.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado, TX with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. with Father Greg Korenek officiating.  Interment to follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Daniel Ray Rodriguez, Deric D. Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Miguel Martinez III, Jesus Miguel Martinez, Jesse Ballin Jr., Frank VerVer, and JP Acosta. Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Ballin Sr., Elijah Jay Ballin, Joe Michael Martinez, Roberto Martinez, Jesus Martinez, Daniel Rodriguez, Dalton Thomas Lugo, Juan Ricardo Garza III, Don Allen VerVer, Fermin VerVer, Tony Blanton, William Gerami, Charles Morton, Edward Martinez, Mark Martinez, Anton Rodriguez, Richard Rangel Cadena, and Delvina Gonzales.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Assumption Catholic Church/ABVM Guadalupanas Society PO Box 369 Ganado, TX 77962 and Harbor Hospice 5606 N. Navarro Victoria, TX 77904.
