June 16 is a day that Megan Diaz will probably never forget. It is the day she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Cancer was the last thing on her mind when she found a lump in her breast in April. The 19-year-old Ganado graduate has always been athletic and healthy. She was named All State and All District in softball during her high school athletic career, was voted Miss GHS by her peers and is currently majoring in science at The Victoria College. Her days are filled with school, work, studying, and volunteering as a mentor in the PALS program

Judy Liberda spends time with her husband, Carroll, who is a resident at the Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Judy Liberda has come home. After working in the senior care industry outside Jackson County for 25 years, the petite, white-haired lady has returned to her hometown to serve the final leg of her career as administrator at the Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born and raised in Ganado, Liberda was the first administrator at the former Care Inn of Ganado when it opened in 1971, which until it was demolished just a month ago, was adjacent to her current facility. She and her husband, Carroll, continued to live in Ganado after her career took her to a nursing and

Workforce Solutions offers wealth of opportunities
by Paul Harrison
 (Posted 7/25/2010)
At its simplest, Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent handles government grants implemented through a number of different programs assisting “dislocated workers” (unemployed) and disadvantaged to acquire the training or temporary assistance necessary to integrate into the workforce. It is in no way the unemployment benefits office. They will, however, help in the job search.
Tracey Coleman, the LEAD career counselor and Edna office supervisor, can rattle off a lengthy list of the services offered, and the breadth and width of opportunities is, frankly, stunning. But all of it is meaningless if people aren't finding their way into jobs.

by Chris Lundstrum

Ganado resident Tommy Dennis wants the drainage on Mauritz St. fixed before another hurricane hits the area. Dennis was at the July 13 council meeting to air his concerns.
He told council the people who live on the north side of Ganado were flooded the last time a tropical storm came through the area and nothing had been done since then to address the flooding.
“I met with county officials and they said they would help,” he said. “Since then I haven’t heard anything. The ditches need to be cleaned out periodically.”
Mayor Clinton Tegeler told Dennis the city does

Texana IV and V Sonnefeld visited the Texana monument outside the LNRA offices
There’s nothing like coming home again. Even if coming home again means coming home for the very first time. Hoping to discover and understand the legacy of their name, the two Texanas – the fourth and fifth generation of Texana Jayne – undertook a 14-hour, 1,000 mile journey from Tucson, Ariz. to find out more information on the origination of their unusual name.
“My mom, Texana Jayne III, did a lot of research on our name but she passed away young and unexpectedly before getting to write anything down,” said Texana IV. “So much of what I know
