Sturm is chasing his dream

By Michael Brooks Staff Writer

Dalton Sturm sat with his family, watching the NFL draft and waiting to see if his name was going to be called. He was not picked in the draft, but shortly afterwards, he was offered an undrafted free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys to participate in rookie mini-camp.

Sturm, from Goliad, was a walk on at the University of Texas at San Antonio who earned a scholarship before the 2016 college season. He started at quarterback for the Roadrunners for three seasons, racking up 5,768 passing yards and rushing for 1,227 yards.

“It has been a crazy week,” Sturm said. “My phone hasn’t stopped ringing.”

Family has always been a big part of Sturm’s life, and they were there for him through all the events that unfolded this week.

“A lot of my family lives in Ganado. I lived in Ganado when I was very young, and I was there through kindergarten. The family is real close. Most of them were there with me for the draft. I appreciate everything they have done for me throughout this entire process. The support they’ve shown me has really been amazing.”
