State 7 on 7 tournament begins Thursday

The Ganado Indian 7 on 7 team will begin playing in the State tournament on Thursday, June 23, at Veteran’s Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.

The Indians are in pool H of division 3. The other teams in the pool are Crane, Eastland, and Millsap. On Thursday, Ganado will play Millsap first at 1 p.m. followed by Crane at 2:30 and Eastland at 4. There are eight pools in Division 3, each containing four teams. Most teams in the bracket are teams Ganado knows little about, but that is not a concern for the Indians.

“We don't necessarily develop a strategy or game plan for other teams, but more importantly, just focus on what we do and try to execute our schemes to the best of our ability,” Ganado Athletic Director Josh Ervin said.

Every team will play three games on Thursday, and at least one on Friday. Every teams will also advance to the Championship bracket on Friday. The results of Thursday’s pool play will determine seeding in the Championship bracket.

The Championship bracket is single elimination.

“We're excited about watching the kids go out and compete the next two days and expect them to go out and be successful,” Ervin added.

For anyone wanting to watch the Indians play, there is no charge for spectators, however, there is no seating around the fields used doing pool play, so everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs.
