Mitchell places 28 at state

By Michael Brooks

Staff Writer

Going to state four years in a row in any event is a major accomplishment, and Cowgirl Lexi Mitchell just completed her fourth trip to the State Golf tournament in Austin. Her freshman year she was an alternate on a state qualifying team and her sophomore and junior year she was part of a team that qualified for state, but this time, she made it on her own.

When most athletes make it to state, it is the culmination of years of training finally paying off. But Mitchell found out quickly that she was just naturally very good at golf.

“I never did play when I was younger,” Mitchell said. “I started playing golf my freshman year.”

Mitchell shot a 97 both days and finished tied for 28th place at the state tournament but she didn’t leave empty handed.
