Ganado send off, State tourney just down the road

The Ganado minors softball team will began their state tournament play Friday at 8 p.m.

The state tournament is another double elimination bracket, this time with four teams in the bracket. The state teams are Ganado, Columbus, Kirbyville, and Northside National-a team out of Houston.

Ganado will open play against possibly the toughest of the three other teams, defending state champion, Columbus. Columbus is almost a mirror image of Ganado. They are undefeated and have also destroyed their competition. Columbus won their district playoff games by scores of 21-1, 16-1, 20-0, and 20-0 and they won their sectional games 13-0, 17-1 and they won their sectional championship game, but the score wasn’t listed.

Kirbyville, although not blowing away opponents, also went through district and sectionals undefeated.

Ganado has outscored opponents 108-4 in their undefeated playoff run.

No information for Northside National is available.

The state tournament is in El Campo at Legacy Fields.

The Ganado girls will have a send off on Friday at 2:45. Their first game will be Friday at 8 p.m. If they defeat Columbus, their second game will be Saturday at 8 p.m. If Columbus wins, Ganado will play their second game Saturday at 6 p.m. If Ganado wins the first two games, they will move on to the championship game(s), played on Monday, July 15, at 6 p.m. If they win the first two, they will only have to win one of two to win the title.

With one loss, Ganado would have to move through the loser’s bracket and then win two in a row to win the state title. The second and deciding state game, if needed, would be 30 minutes after the first game ends, on Monday.
