Leslie Carroll “LC” Smith, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2017 following a lengthy illness. LC was born on Feb. 15, 1939 in Lavaca County to the late Delbert Smith and Nona Fitch Smith. LC graduated from Edna High School in 1957 and proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1958-1962 aboard the USS Hollister. He retired from Alcoa after 32 years of service. LC loved spending time with his family. Hunting, fishing, gardening, tractor driving, cattle and bustin brush were just some of their cherished memories. He was always their biggest fan at their sporting events and rodeos. LC was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and true friend who will be dearly missed. LC is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donella Smith the love of his life and soul mate; children, Lori (Lee) Putnam and Shana (John) Zacek; sister, Virginia (David) Fountain of Beaumont; brothers, James Alton Smith of Hope, and Donald (Hannah) Smith of Frankfort, Germany; grandchildren, Ty (Becky) Putnam, Lane (Lyndie) Putnam, and McKenna Zacek who meant everything to LC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. LC is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 8, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, in the First Baptist Church of Edna with Brother Joe McClanahan officiating. Pallbearers were daughters, grandchildren, and son-in-laws. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Zacek, Terry Conerly, Ronnie Conerly, Faron Goodman, Bill Parkhill, and Bobby Williams. Arrangements under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.
