Larry Wade Horton

    Larry Wade Horton, of Edna, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 13, 2017, with his loving family by his side at the age of 56.  He fought a courageous three year battle with cancer, trying every means available to extend his time with family and friends. He was born on May 15, 1961 in Houston, Texas to the late Richard Glen Horton and Beatrice Annette Marek Gloor.     Larry worked at Dow Chemical for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather “pops”, brother, uncle and dear friend that will be truly missed.     Larry was an active member of the Edna community as a Little League coach, Cub Scout Troop Leader, volunteer firefighter, and award winning member of the Flag City Kooker cook-off team. He never missed a game of Stephanie and Russell’s and continued to support local sports after their graduations.     Larry never met a stranger and losing him will be felt throughout Edna and the surrounding communities.     Larry is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Mader Horton; daughter, Stephanie Horton Cunningham and her husband Colbey; son, Russell Horton and his wife Kayse; sisters, Kathy Hailey, Rachel Parsons, Paula Grahmann, Sharon Hamilton, and Debbie Hunt; brothers, Darrell Horton, Gerald Horton, Wesley Horton, Craig Horton, David Gloor, and Howard Wayne Gloor; grandson, Colin Cunningham. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.     Larry is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Howard Gloor, two siblings; Ricky Horton and Cindy Horton.     Services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017, in the Baptist Temple. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in El Campo, Texas. The Reverend Danny Wilson will be officiating.     Pallbearers will be Jan Bone, Scott Pearson, Jimmy Roach, Larry Deyton, Jeff Ruppert, and Brad Ryan. An honorary pallbearer is Melvin Ross.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221
