Mark Larsen Rose

Mark Larsen Rose, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026. He was born on March 7, 1955, in Ganado, TX, to Elisha Thaddeus “Thad” Rose and Laura Larsen Rose.

He grew up in Edna, TX and graduated salutatorian from Edna High School in 1973. During high school, he was active in golf, band, drama club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Future Scientists of America, and the Future Teachers Association. He was also named to Outstanding Teenagers of America, Who’s Who in American High Schools, and the Society of Outstanding High School Students, and he was a member of the Thespian Society.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Texas in 1977 and received his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University in 1980, passing the State Bar of Texas later that year. After completing law school, he returned to Edna, TX to work alongside his father and brother at Rose Interest Land

Management.

He and Lois McMahan Rose shared nearly 40 years together, beginning in 1986, and were married on November 18, 1994.

Their marriage was marked by steady devotion, loyalty, and a deep commitment to one another.

They shared a genuine

and abiding love throughout their years together. He further strengthened their family by formally adopting Lois’s daughter, Stephanie Smith Ferguson. He was an extremely proud grandfather to Bennett Klein Ferguson and Leyton Rose Ferguson.

He was a generous and selfless man who consistently placed his family first. He had a warm personality, enjoyed bringing people together, and was always the life of the party.

Mark lived an exciting and full life. At age nine, he joined the Edna Country Club. His father would drop him off for the day. He often spent his time playing on his own until, at about eleven years old, the older members invited him to join their group. He remained a member of the club throughout his life.

He was a man of many interests. Along with golf, he loved to water ski and snow ski, and he shared many funny stories about both over the years. In junior high, he began playing in local neighborhood poker games, an interest he carried throughout his life.

He continued to enjoy the game for many years and participated in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas for two decades.

He also enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was known for hosting Port Alto bay parties that are still being talked about today, and he loved sports, especially the Astros.

He was a lifetime member of Edna Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Rose; his daughter, Stephanie Ferguson (Lee); his grandchildren, Bennett Ferguson and Leyton Ferguson; his brother, Bowen David Rose; nephews, Larsen Rose and Bowen Rose (Fairleigh); and nieces, Brooke Rose and Rachel Turner (Barret).

Pallbearers are Lee Ferguson, Bennett Ferguson, Bowen Rose, Darrell McMahan, Brady Watson, and Shannon Watson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chip Reynolds officiating. Burial will be held privately. Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221. www.oaklawnfhednatx. com
