Beatrice Marie Jurena Steffek of Edna passed away on December 24, 2025, in Citizens Memorial Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 99. She was born on June 23, 1926, in Koerth, Texas, to the late Frances (Smolik) and Frank Joe Jurena and was the youngest of nine children.

Beatrice married Louis Jim Steffek on October 1, 1946, at St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Koerth, Texas. They moved to Edna soon after they married and worked side-by-side enjoying working together in all aspects of life on the farm and ranch. Beatrice was an accomplished quilter and hand needleworker and was recognized as “the sewing angel” and leaves many treasures for all of us to enjoy.

Beatrice was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna and the KJT Society.

Beatrice is survived by three children: Leonard Steffek and wife Helen, Bessie Grahmann and husband Andrew, and Albert Steffek; five grandchildren – Larson Steffek and wife Jenny, Scott Grahmann and wife Katie, Lance Steffek and wife Courtney, Jennifer Petre and husband Will, and Shane Steffek and wife Misty; eight greatgrandchildren – Emma, Lachlan, Langston,

Lennox, Annora, Piper,

Mason and Logan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents, Frances and Frank Joe Jurena; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kallus Steffek; sisters, Julia Eschenburg, Annie Jurena, and Emily Franz; and brothers, Alphonse, Rudolph, Frankie, and twins Victor and Louis Jurena.

Services for Beatrice were held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the St. Agnes Catholic Church, 506 North Allen Avenue, Edna, Texas, with the visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. the rosary to be recited at 10 a.m., and the Funeral Mass beginning at 10.30 a.m. Interment followed in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. Reverend Michael Petering and Reverend Johnson Owusu-Boateng officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grow in Grace Senior Living, 309 South Pumphrey, Edna, TX 77957 or the charity of choice.
