Geraldine Dennis was born to the union of Sammie Morris and Gladys Brown Dennis on March 5, 1930, in Ganado, Texas.She was the second of the nine Dennis children. She was baptized at an early age and attended Prosperity Baptist Church.

Geraldine graduated high school at seventeen and enrolled at Tillotson College in Austin, Texas.

In 1951, she became a member of the Alpha Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated, where she formed bonds with her Sorors.

Upon graduation from Tillotson she began teaching in Edna at George Washington Carver Elementary in 1952. There she would meet and later marry the band director, Harold O. Sargent. She taught second grade, as well as first grade. In August of 1956, she attained her Master’s degree from Texas Southern University. She subsequently received her certification in special education and later became a resource teacher. She dedicated her life to education, teaching elementary school for 46 years, retiring in 1998. Her classroom was a place of warmth, creativity, and lofty expectations.

Mrs. Sargent was added to the Church of Christ at Peabody Street in Edna, where she actively participated in ministries and fellowship. She also attended the Wheless Lane Church of Christ in Austin, along with her daughter and family, as well as the Liberty View Church of Christ in San Antonio.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Andrea Sargent-Fambles and grandchildren Allexandra Morgan Fambles and Llewellyn Sargent Fambles.

Additionally, she is survived by four sisters, Sally McKnight, Gracie Eldridge, Rosa Gipson, and Patricia Jones. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sammie and Gladys Dennis and siblings Ossie Lee Brown, Major Douglas Dennis, Sr., Sammie Morris Dennis, Jr., and Jake Larry Dennis. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sargent’s funeral will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Edna High School Auditorium, 1303 W. Gayle Street, Edna, TX. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m., with the services to follow at 1 p.m. The repast will follow at the Edna High School cafeteria.

Mrs. Sargent’s burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the MeadowLawn Funeral Home, 5611 East Houston Street, San Antonio, TX 78220.
