Domingo G. Zarate, 53, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Domingo was born April 14, 1972 in Victoria to the late Lupe Gonzales and Marshall Zarate.

Domingo Zarate

Our dad was a hard-working man who dedicated his life to providing for his family. He spent his entire career in the oil field — a job that took strength, grit, and commitment, all of which he had in abundance. When he wasn’t working, you could find him under the hood of a car or cheering on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family fiercely and never hesitated to show up for us in every way possible.

Domingo loved fishing, rock music, a master griller, and coin collecting. He could look at a coin and know it was a rare or old coin right away. He was a big jokester and loved picking on his wife. He loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be truly missed.

Domingo is survived by his wife, Vicky Deleon Zarate, daughters, Erica Cavazos (David) of Victoria, Gabrielle V. Helmer (Dustin) of Victoria, Dominique J. Zarate-Vargas of Edna, Carlissa R. Soriano (Jeremy) of Victoria; son, Ryan Lee Ortega (Devon) of Victoria; sisters, Marsha Hernandez (Randy) of Edna, Matilda Covarrubias of Edna and his grandchildren, Kyleigh V. Salazar, Cody. J. Cavazos, Troy D. Vargas, Lola S. Cavazos, Azeria L. Helmer, Adora G. Zarate and Maverick J. Helmer.

He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Aria S. Garcia.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 3-5 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel followed by a Prayer Service/Rosary at 5 PM.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11:45 am at Edna Latin American Cemetery in Edna, TX.
