Charles Joseph Tipton October 30, 1946 – July 9, 2025

Charles was born at home in the Arenosa Community on October 30, 1946 to John Girrard and Mildred Fay Jones Tipton. He graduated from Edna High School in 1965 and then attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville. He was a member of the German Theatrical Club where he performed in various German plays. Charles earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and then pursued and achieved a Master’s degree. He was employed by El Campo ISD for seven years as a junior high English teacher and later taught one year of History in the Port Lavaca area.

After teaching Charles received his real estate degree and worked with Gerhard Reality in Houston. The owner, Frankie Gerhard, who is also his aunt, said he was an excellent salesman. If he sold a house to someone, 10 years or so later, the clients would ask for him to help them again.

Charles was a historian doing extensive research in the genealogy of the Tipton and Jones family. Hours of research went into this endeavor.

He had a love for antique clocks. He could take the clocks apart and put them back together with ease.Wherever he was, his collection of antique clocks went with him lining the walls of the home and the ticking of the clocks was evidence of his ability to get them up and running. Many times he was asked to fix antique clocks belonging to others. In his collection were a number of grandfather clocks which he purchased at private sales or one of the numerous clock shows he attended.

Charles is survived by his companion of 25 years Nancy Harris; Children: Stephanie Elaine Kaiser (Bryan) of LaGrange, TX, Joel Daniel Tipton of Missoula, Montana and Katherine Rose Tipton Adkins (Jack) of Merritt Island, Florida; Grandchildren: Lucas and Jacob Kaiser and Chloe, Derek, and Bowen Adkins; Brothers: Bill Tipton (Charlotte), Terry Tipton (Lesli); Sister: Rose Volkmer, Sister in Law: Donna Tipton Henderson; Aunt: Frankie Gerhard and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents: brother, Mike Tipton; and his Brother in Law, Robert Volkmer.

A memorial service was held on July 22 at the Flowerbed in Edna.
