Tana Sue Derrick, 82, of Missouri City, Texas, passed peacefully unto heaven on May 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 13, 1943, in Ganado, Texas, Tana was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Jo Thomas.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Tana leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and faith. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Raymond Derrick Sr., and their children: Raymond (Kip) Derrick Jr and wife Kelley of Ganado, Texas, Lisa Anne Bones and husband Lyle of Alvin, Texas and Scott Allen Derrick and wife Stefanie of Missouri City, Texas. Grandchildren: Chelsea and husband, Christopher Sutherland, Garrett Bones and wife Michelle, Austin Derrick, James Bones and Baine Derrick. Great-grandchildren: Adelyn and Holden Sutherland. Sister, Randi Abbott. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.
Tana’s early life was marked by a sense of adventure and resilience.
Throughout her early years, Tana lived in various places including North Carolina and Germany.
Growing up, Tana and her beloved siblings spent time playing in abandoned castles and exploring different cities in Germany. Tana spoke often about the adventures she experienced while traveling with her military family.
In Tana’s later years, Tana graduated high school in Lawton, Oklahoma before moving back to her hometown of Ganado, Texas where she attended Victoria College and met her husband. On June 8, 1962, Tana married Raymond Sr., beginning a journey of enduring love and partnership that spanned more than six decades where they raised their three children whom she adored.
A vibrant and spirited woman, Tana cherished the time spent with her family.
She brought warmth and joy to every gathering, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. She will be remembered for her unwavering compassion and generosity. Tana gave selflessly to others, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear to those in need.
Tana Sue Derrick will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, resilience and love lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Mary Jo Thomas, brother Wayne Thomas, sister Renate Thomas, and other loved ones. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in honor of Tana’s generous spirit.
