A new Cowgirl joins the hustle

The Cowgirls added a new member to their team, but she’s more than just a transfer student: Alejandra Castell is from Spain. The senior had been waiting for proper paperwork allowing her to join the team for a couple of weeks, and when it did, she shed some tears of happiness. Since then, Castell has played post in the Brazos tournament, the Moulton game, and now the game against Needville, where Edna won 54-41.

Castell said this is her first year to play an organized sport, and chose basketball because her sisters and father play back home. “We don’t have the opportunity to play sports in high school, and I think it’s a great thing because it allows me to become close with my teammates and make strong relationships,” she said. “Plus going to the football playoffs was really exciting; we don’t get to do things like that back home.”

Though the culture difference wasn’t a shock, Castell said she’s still getting used to it.
