Jailor Kara Kovar was named the Jackson County 100 Club’s Officer of the Year. Kovar set a precedence becoming not only the first jailor to win the the award, but also the first woman.

“I want to say thank you to everyone,” Kovar said. “Sometimes in the jail we feel like we are not noticed as much as the first responders. It is really nice to actually be noticed.”

Kovar was chosen for going above and beyond in her normal job duties. In one instance, Kovar was booking in someone and she overheard them say that they were “only” being booked on certain charges. She let it be known that there may be more, and a K9 unit was sent back to the vehicle and discovered money in a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

“It is a really big honor to be chosen in Jackson County,” Kovar said. “It’s a big surprise and I’m still kind of in shock about winning.”

Kovar has been a jailor at the Jackson County jail for six years.
