Sklar is new county judge

        On January 2 Jill Sklar was sworn in as the new Jackson County judge.

    “It was very surreal,” Sklar said. “I’ve been preparing for it but when it happened the feeling was just ‘wow.’ Just like that, just going up there and taking over, just like that. But that is what is beautiful about our government, there are smooth transitions, and it is really exciting.

    “I have spent the last several months coming to court and working with Judge [Dennis] Simons. He has been great at making the transition easy. I am still trying to meet with all the county officials to see exactly what it is that they do, to see what they need from the court and getting to know then and their jobs.

    “I’m excited about the opportunity and to put a fresh set of eyes on some of the issues we have here and see if there is a better approach and if there is not, just making sure it is all running as efficiently as possible.”

    Sklar says she is not nervous about the new job but it can still be full of unexpected surprises.
