Saturday wreck on FM616 results in fatality

A two-vehicle accident happened in the early evening outside of Vanderbilt on Saturday, February 19, and resulted in the fatality of a Bloomington woman.

“The crash happened at 7:41 p.m. on FM 616 about six miles west of Vanderbilt,” DPS Spokesman Sgt. Ruben San Miguel said. “One vehicle, a 2021 F150, driven by David Brian Reyes, 27, of Edna, collided with a 2007 Ford Expedition, driven by Susan Marie Crosbie, 41, of Bloomington.

According to San Miguel, Crosbie was declared deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Precinct #1 Darren Stancik, and Reyes was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

“Reyes is in serious but stable condition,” he said.

    Two passengers rode with Crosbie.

“One passenger was a 16-year old female,” San Miguel said. “She was flown from the scene to Memorial Hermann, where she is in serious condition. The rear passenger was a four-year old female.”

The youngest was transported to Citizens Medical Hospital in Victoria where she is in stable condition.

San Miguel offered how the accident happened.

“Reyes was traveling east in the F150,” San Miguel explained. “The Expedition traveled west. Reyes, for reasons still under investigation, went off the roadway to the right, over-corrected to the left and into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck the Expedition.”

The accident is still an ongoing investigation. More information will be released when it is known.
