Deceased Body Identified

On September 22, a deceased body was located on the side of FM 234 N. in El Toro. The body was searched and determined to have been deceased for possibly two weeks and deposited on the road.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was unable to identify the deceased person at the scene and put out a request on Facebook, asking for help identifying the person.

On October 8, the JCSO put up a post, stating the person had been identified.

The post reads “The deceased person that was found on FM 234 N on 9/22/2021 has been identified.  JCSO Investigations has been working diligently in partnership with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office and Jerry Passement with Border Patrol Missing Migrant Division.

“Family members in Houston, TX heard about the investigation thru our Facebook post that many of you shared. A concerned family member then contacted JSCO on Saturday, 10/2/2021, and reported a missing family member from Guatemala that could possibly be our victim. The victim was identified as 65-year-old Luis Eduardo Garcia Fuentes, an immigrant from Guatemala.  Garcia-Fuentes entered the United States illegally and unfortunately died during his journey, the cause of death is still under investigation. The Guatemalan Consulate Office has been notified, and Garcia-Fuentes has been positively identified. Family members in Guatemala have also been notified. Our condolences go out to the family.

“Thank You to our Facebook followers that commented and shared our post, as this assisted JCSO in spreading the information out beyond Jackson County jurisdiction.”
