Blizzy n Blend raided

On Thursday, June 5, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Edna Police, warrant in hand, searched local smoke shop Blizzy n Blend, confiscating multiple machines they say are used for illegal gambling, as well as what they say are illegal THC products.

In Texas, following a 2019 law, some cannabis products are legal, provided they contain THC levels of .3 percent or less. However, the legislature recently voted to ban all hemp products for recreational use. If signed by Governor Abbott, that law reversing the 2019 decision would take effect in September 2025.

In a Facebook post, JCSO stated that having received what they called “credible information” regarding the sale of THC vapes to minors and illegal gambling machines, typically called 8-liner machines, and that the products confiscated contained “illegal levels of THC.”

According to the post, local school administrators have long had concerns about minors vaping, finding increasing numbers of vape products in the possession of students in local school districts.

“Authorities are particularly concerned about the rising trend of underage vape use,” it said. “Especially the growing risk that these devices could be laced with dangerous substances like fentanyl.”

It goes on to say “The sale of illegal products – particularly those that threaten the safety of our youth – will not be tolerated. We remain committed to protecting our community, reducing crime, and keeping harmful substances out of the hands of minors.”

The announcement does not name any individual suspects by name, but says “charges are pending,” and reminds readers that THC is a drug in Penalty Group 2, making possession a felony.
