This time they want to finish the job.
The Ganado Maidens softball team has been on a mission for years.
When they were young, they put together a run of several years of playing in the Little League Texas State championship game. This group of Maidens is filled with the girls who advanced to the Little League Southwest tournament only to be knocked out, not by another team, but by COVID 19.
On Thursday, the Maidens made history by punching their ticket to the State Championship game.
In game one, Ganado came out and destroyed Corrigan-Camden 19-2.
Through three innings, the game looked like you would expect a fifth round game to look, with
see MAIDENS STATEBOUND on page A12 Ganado leading 3-1 but from there Ganado took control, putting up at least one run in every inning and topping things with a nine run sixth inning.
Game two was a much closer contest with Ganado building a 6-0 lead before CC put up their lone run, but the Maidens added two more runs and took the 8-1 victory.
The Maidens will face Riesel in the state championship game on Thursday, May 29, at 1 p.m.
