Ganado Maidens (32 5-1) and Riesel Lady Indians (28-4-1)
Maxpreps rank: Reisel 1, Ganado 2
Runs for: Ganado 375, Riesel 339
Runs against: Ganado 77, Riesel 92 Last season Reisel lost to Crawford in the State Semi-Final round. This year they blew through the Semi-Final round to advance to the championship game.
Riesel is currently on a 21 game win streak. The Maidens are on a 20 game win streak.
Riesel went undefeated in district play, although their district was nowhere near as tough as Ganado’s.
In the preseason polls Riesel was #5 and Ganado #10. Thorndale is the only common opponent with Riesel winning 18-8 and the Maidens winning 12-0 and 2-1.
In the circle, Kyleigh Benton, an A&M signee who went 18-0 with a 1.84 era, leads the Lady Indians. She struck out 132 in 99 innings.
Along with Benton, Riesel also has Landri Pick, a Georgia Tech signee; Lauren Summers, another A&M signee; and Kennedy Guardiola, a Wharton College signee.
Overall, this should be a fairly evenly matched game. Both pitchers are similar. The Maidens will bring in more speed, and Riesel brings in more power.
The Maidens must play clean defense, and must figure out how to hit Benton.
The Maiden softball team already set a new school record for wins, won the Regional finals and State Semi-Finals for the first time.
Now they need one more win.
