Docket Highlights Jackson County District Court May 8, 2025 Judge Julie Bauknight presiding
• Kade Latrel Rodas of Edna pleaded guilty to Stalking in exchange for 10 year suspended sentence.
He will serve 10 years probation. A second charge, possession of child pornography, was dismissed as part of his plea deal.
• In her victim’s impact statement, Amelia Smiga said that in her relationship with Rodas she spent her time “walking on eggshells,” and “feeling worthless and alone,” Smiga said “abuse has a way of stealing your voice,” and that she finally came to realize that “my voice matters. My story matters.”
• Ramon Palacios, of Edna, pleaded guilty to the Murder of Roseann Martinez. In a plea deal, Palacios agreed to a 50- year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Divisio. In her victim’s impact statement, Martinez’s mother Maria De La Garza said that she was still dealing with the effects of what she called Palacios’ “senseless act.”
She described Roseann as “compassionate, always noticing those in need and giving all her heart.”
• Daryl National, of Edna, was sentenced to two tenyead sentences for Assault Family Violence - impeding breath/circulation, Evading arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, and three 30- year sentences for three counts of Manufacturing/Delivering a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1B 4-200 grams. Substances in penalty group 1B include fentanyl and it’s derivatives. All sentences will run concurrently.
• Blake Matthew Powell, in a plea deal, was convicted of two counts Bail Jumping/Failure to Appear, one county of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, and one count of Theft of Property - Elderly Individual for his part in the thefts of farm equipment and other items. Powell previously testified in the trials of those accused in the same crimes, all of whom were convicted. He was sentenced to 10 years for all three crime, to run concurrently.
