Women of One Accord

Women of One Accord
Cheyenne Sanford

God gave Cheyenne Sanford a vision, and she’s going to do everything she can to bring it to fruition.

Women of One Accord: the idea for this ministry is to bring women from all denominations together in order to empower and uplift each other, under one house, under one rule, and under one accord.

Sanford leads the women’s ministry at Morales Baptist Church, and is trying hard to connect with other women from other churches in order to, if anything, be there for each other in this new ministry, Women of One Accord.

“I didn’t think I was worthy enough to follow this through, but God and I discussed it,” she said. “I want us to be able to pray for each other, and take hold of the opportunity to help another sister in Christ, whether it’s addiction, marriage problems, children… if we can be of help and lift a sister up, then that’s where we’re at.”

The hope of Women of One Accord is to branch out eventually, do community service, and attend conventions and conferences.

“Women can be so closed, so I want to give them an opportunity to excel and lead, and be comfortable talking to each other about what’s happening in their life,” Sanford added.

Mendy Hurst, wife of Don Hurst, who is the pastor for Morales Baptist Church, is a close friend of Sanford’s and has been helping her get the word out for Women of One Accord, and connect her with the right people.

“Cheyenne is looking to bring in other women as representatives from other churches. So it’s a think tank, so to speak, and we can talk about different events and activities that have worked at one church, but not another,” Hurst said. “We want to bounce ideas off of each other, and if we’re having a stressful event we can call each other and ask, ‘how did you get through this?’

The mission statement, goals and vision are to foster spiritual growth, promote fellowship, serve others, encourage leadership and advocate for justice.

“I had a dream about the ministry, I prayed about it and talked to Mendy about it,” Sanford said. “When God says do, I do, and even if it’s something I don’t want to do, God still nudges me.”

Hurst nodded. “When God says move…” “We move,” Sanford chimed in.

“We’ve learned there’s no stopping it,” Hurst said. “Cheyenne and I have learned either to support it or get out of the way.”

The Morales Baptist Church will hold the Women of One Accord meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Palacios Community Hub, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a Bible, a friend…it doesn’t matter, everyone is welcome.

The women’s ministry on the 17th of this month, but going forward it will be the fourth Saturday of every month at 1 p.m. The church holds services every Sunday at 11 a.m. and the second Sunday of the month they will hold an evening service at 6 p.m.

Adult Bible study is on Wednesday nights, and on Saturday mornings they will hold a Bible study with breakfast provided.

“Anybody who is old enough to stay engaged and have conversations, they’re more than welcome to come from anywhere,” Hurst said.

It’s very evident that Sanford is excited to get Women of One Accord on its feet. Originally from Las Vegas, she’s lived everywhere due to her husband being in the Navy: Florida, New York, Detroit, Atlanta, Tennessee.

So Hurst found it necessary to introduce Sanford to other churches, because they’re not familiar with her or the organization.

“Yes, Cheyenne is real, it’s legit, we’re doing Women of One Accord, and she has the backing of Morales Baptist Church,” Hurst said.

“Everything is in God’s time, I know He is going to bring who He wants in this group,” Sanford said. “I just pray women open up so they can get the opportunity to experience God with a lot of women. That’s my hope.”
