The Ganado Indians started the season off slow, moving above .500 for the first time after winning the final district game.
When the playoffs began, the Indians bats exploded.
“The boys are hitting the ball better than we have all year,” Indian Head Coach Jason Cann said. “In the last four playoff games we’ve accumulated 37 hits and scored 34 runs.”
Not to be outdone, the pitching staff has also raised the bar, allowing only three runs in the four playoff games and, going back a bit further, the Indians have thrown four shutouts in their last six games, including two playoff wins.
“We’ve also had some great outings on the mound by freshman Jack Hurt and senior Bryce Ullman,” Cann continued.
Our defense has been great as well. We’re playing good baseball right now.”
Ganado (14-10-1) will now face Danbury (26-8) in the Regional Semi-Final round.
“Danbury is extremely good,” Cann explained.
“Danbury also has an elite pitcher who struck out 11 against Thorndale in game one.”
When the Industrial Cobras met Poth in the Area playoffs, the Cobras were the team who had allowed far fewer runs; however, the Poth pitching staff shut down the Cobras, throwing back-toback shutouts, winning the series 2-0 and 5-0.
The Cobras finish the season as Bi-District Champs.
