Hospice of South Texas celebrates 40 years of excellence in compassionate care

Hospice of South Texas, the region’s trusted nonprofit hospice care provider, is celebrating 40 years of delivering comfort, dignity, and support to patients and families across South Texas.

Founded in 1985 by a dedicated group of local nurses, doctors, and volunteers, Hospice of South Texas has grown into a leading provider of end-of-life care in 12 counties. With offices in Victoria and Hallettsville and the Dornburg Center of Compassion—the area’s only inpatient hospice facility—the organization remains deeply rooted in the community it serves.

Hospice of South Texas holds a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and has been voted “Best of the Best” Hospice in Victoria for multiple years. It is also a proud member of the Texas Non-Profit Hospice Alliance, a statewide coalition advocating for high-quality, mission-driven care.

“People deserve to be treated with dignity, and families should feel supported every step of the way,” said Dr. Ty Meyer, Full-time Medical Director. “That’s what we’ve done for 40 years—and we’re still doing it today.”

“This milestone reflects the deep trust our community has placed in us over the years,” said Laurie Eder, Interim CEO. “We’re proud to serve Victoria and the surrounding counties with compassion and care.”

Pastor Herb Beyer, President of the Board of Directors, added: “Hospice of South Texas is more than a care provider—it’s a ministry of compassion. They’ve stood by our community during the most difficult moments. We are proud of the heart and spirit they bring to every family they serve.”

A Different Kind of Hospice

As a nonprofit, Hospice of South Texas is guided by mission over margin. Every dollar is reinvested into patient care, grief support, and programs that go beyond what for-profit providers often offer.

Key differences include:

• Personalized Care – More time spent with patients and families

• Holistic Services – Spiritual care, bereavement support, and counseling

• Community Access – Services based on need, not ability to pay

• Trusted Legacy – A 40-year reputation of integrity and excellence Real Impact, Real Stories One local family shared: “Hospice of South Texas cared for my mother for nearly two years. Their support allowed her to live at home with dignity, and her final days at the Dornburg Center were filled with the same love and compassion. We’ll always be grateful.”

Volunteers Welcome Volunteers have always been part of the heart of Hospice of South Texas— from retired teachers and church members to high school students and veterans.

“We’re not just looking for help—we’re inviting people to be part of something meaningful,” said Hilary Lucas, Director of Volunteer Services. “Volunteers are part of our hospice family.”

Looking Ahead

As Hospice of South Texas celebrates 40 years of service, the mission remains the same: to walk with families through life’s most tender moments with compassion, dignity, and expert care. Proudly serving Victoria and the surrounding 12-county area, the organization looks to the future with gratitude and continued commitment to the people and communities who have trusted them for decades.
