Edna ISD School Board President Patrick Brzozowski and Trustee William Alex face challenges for their seats on the EISD Board of Trustees in May.
The filing deadline was Feb. 14 to be listed as a candidate for office for the Edna City Council or the Boards of Trustees for Edna ISD, Ganado ISD, or Industrial ISD for the Sat., May 3 election.
Kris Crenshaw and Mac Long have filed to oppose Brzozowski, who was first elected in 2004 to represent District 3. Long is the son of current Edna ISD trustee Donnie Mac Long, who was elected to represent District 7 in 2011.
According to the Texas Association of School Boards, nepotism does not apply to school board members who are related to one another and on the board together.
Wesley Freeland and Sonny Strelec have filed for the District 6 seat held by Alex since 2016.
Each Edna ISD trustee is elected to a three-year term of office.
Outside of Edna ISD, only the incumbents at Ganado ISD, Industrial ISD, and on the Edna City Council filed for the May election, making each race unopposed.
Those candidates and offices include Edna Mayor Lance Smiga and Edna District 1 Councilmember Cippi Palacios and District 2 Councilmember Katrina Callis; Ganado ISD Board of Trustee Position 1 Representative and Board Secretary Mary Kay George and Position 2 Representative Shelby Hurt; and Industrial ISD Trustees Denise Chaney and B.J. Ellison.
