Congratulations to the Edna Country Club on the ribbon cutting for their new golf cart barn for their rental cart fleet. The members and patrons of the Edna Country Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority for its generous grant through the Community Development Partnership Program, which helped make this project possible. The Club currently offers eight rental carts available to the golfing public, continuing its long-standing commitment to providing recreational opportunities for the community and visitors alike. Established in 1953, the Club was founded by a group of forward-thinking, civic-minded individuals who believed Edna and Jackson County needed more amenities and recreational opportunities for its citizens. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Lon Drushel, who leased 85 acres of land for the project, and several local farmers offered their equipment to construct the course. Eldred Bergstrom, Gerald Brown, Bill Cardwell, J.T. Heri, Harold Koop, and Charlie Farmer were a few members and contributors to the construction crew. Many of the original fairways, greens, and tree layouts remain today, preserving the rich history and character of the course. In 2025, the Club had 103 members. There were 2,789 rounds of golf played by non-members and 2,174 golf carts were rented to these individuals. Over the years, the Edna Country Club has continued to serve as an important community asset, welcoming golfers from near and far to enjoy the game and the challenges the course has to offer. The Club paid $11,726.14 in Ad Valorem (property taxes) and $16,437.95 in sales taxes. It is because of the generosity of LNRA’s commitment to the community development that the Edna Country Club can continue offering these valued amenities to Edna and the surrounding areas for generations to come.
