On April 15 the EBLC meeting was held in the Texana Room of the Farquar Building. President Strnadel introduced McKenna Zacek Pustka, Prosperity Bank President, who is a “local girl who came home” to successfully manage the local branch. This seventh generation Texan was born and reared in Edna, attended Texas A&M University with an interest in Agricultural Economics, having come from a farming/ranching family. In 2019 she went back to work for the Edna Prosperity Bank, thus combining her agricultural background and love of numbers with a banking legacy.
Community Involvement is a service of all Prosperity Banks which she fulfills by working with Edna Business group, Lions Club, Texas and SW Cattle Raisers Association, her child’s school board, her university’s council, her professional development group and perhaps most importantly, being a mom!
The history of Prosperity Bank shows that it and all ensuing developments began here in Edna in 1983. It was formed by purchasing the 1 st National Bank of Edna which had been housed in the McDowell Hotel building. From this humble beginning growth has made it have $38 billion in assets and be located across multiple sites in Texas and Oklahoma, for example there are 60 plus locations in Houston, 36 in South Texas and 14 in Oklahoma, with many others as well. They have been successful by purchasing already established banks and adding to their developments. Among global companies, Prosperity ranks in the top five in capital investments and therefore are very safe. They are proudly number on in agricultural lending.
Mrs. Pustka offered the following cautions and advice: be careful if you use debit cards as it puts your own dollars at risk; be aware that if you write and mail a check, it will contain all your banking information; scams are a constant danger – hang up on any caller asking for banking info; a Financial Power of Attorney must be on file at your bank for financial security reasons. Additionally, she stated that the following words of wisdom “may you be proud of what you do …” is a constant goal that she adheres to as a local banker.
During the business portion of the meeting, President Strnadel thanked everyone for a successful Trivia Night. The event earned approximately $7000. Dates for next year will be March 5,2027, for Trivia Night and June 10 for Bingo. This year’s Bingo will be June 11, 2026. Tickets will be $25 and can be pre-bought or purchased at the door. The event will include Bingo Dot Games and a wreath raffle. The Good Taco will provide a limited menu.
