HEB began their journey in 1905, in Kerrville, Texas, and last year, celebrated 120 years in business.
In October of 1995, HEB opened their doors in Edna, and will celebrate 50 years in business this year.
Last Friday, HEB hosted a re-grand opening and ribbon cutting of the store after a sixmonth renovation, while keeping their doors open the entire time.
Beth Dattomo, HEB public affairs liaison for the Gulf Coast region, led the affair, which began at noon and ended at 5 p.m. She was happy to share the excitement and joy they’ve had reinvesting in our community and county.
Mayor Lance Smiga also spoke, and congratulated HEB on completing their feat in six months.
“They are an integral part of the county, and although no one likes change, including me,” he joked. “But we’re getting used to the products being moved about the store.” Smiga also thanked the staff for dealing with the chaos around them, and dealing with the customers who may not have always been the most understanding.
Carolina Jalufka, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Director, thanked the turnout of the crowd, and thanked HEB for recognizing a growing need for more items and a greater selection.
“It’s more than the opening of a store, it’s a celebration of the partnership with our community and continued growth in our area,” she said. “HEB shows up for the community, not just as sponsors, but as leaders who roll up their sleeves and help out.”
To add the cherry on top of Friday, Dattomo brought up two non-profit groups, Edna ISD Education Foundation and the Friends of Elder Citizens to thank them for being a huge part of the community… and then donated $10,000 to each group, much to the surprise of both groups.
HEB in Edna, added 78 Meal Simple items to the store, and 1,300 new products into the grocery aisles, including healthcare, beauty, home essentials, and more.

At the end of their ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday, HEB donated $10,000 each to the non-profit groups, Friends of Elder Citizens and the Edna ISD Education Foundation, to thank them for being a large part of the community.
