Illegal dumpster usage increases...

On February 13, the Ganado Police Department received a report of an individual attempting to deposit a forged or altered check in the amount of $8,500 at a financial institution in Virginia. The check appeared to be a replica of an official City of Ganado check but was found to contain several discrepancies. Fortunately, the check was flagged as suspicious by the financial institution and was not honored.

Ganado Police have identified a possible suspect from out of state.

The case remains under investigation.

On February 26, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of N. Third St. after learning the driver’s license was suspended.

During the course of the stop, officers placed the driver, identified as Cherie Annette Bricker, age 37, of Vanderbilt, Texas, under arrest for Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions, a Class B Misdemeanor.

While officers were attempting to take Bricker into custody, she resisted and refused to comply with commands. After a brief struggle, Bricker was taken into custody. A search of her person incident to arrest revealed a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Bricker was transported to and booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions, Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 (<1 gram), a State Jail Felony.

On March 3, officers responded to a business in the 300 block of W.

York St. regarding an unknown person or persons using the business’s dumpster without authorization. It was discovered that the individual( s) had dumped a substantial amount of garbage into the dumpster. No suspect(s) have been identified at this time.

This offense constitutes Theft of Service, as the business pays a monthly fee for garbage collection and the unknown individual(s) were unlawfully using that service.

The Ganado Police Department would like to remind the community this has become an increasing issue.

On March 6, officers responded to the area of the 200 block of S.

Third St. regarding a subject reportedly acting in an unusual manner.

Upon arrival, officers located the subject, identified as Jordan Dean Hankins, age 42, of Victoria, Texas. During their contact, officers developed probable cause to believe Hankins was under the influence of narcotics. Hankins was subsequently placed under arrest for Public Intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor, and booked into the Jackson County Jail.

*All subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
