Jackson County voters delivered decisive results in several local races during the primary elections, with one county commissioner contest headed to a runoff.
Jill Sklar will remain as county judge after winning Republican primary with 2,335 votes, defeating Donna Coleman, who received 564 votes. There were no Democratic challengers in local county races.
In the Republican primary for Jackson County Commissioner Precinct 2, incumbent Wayne Bubela won the nomination with 530 votes compared to Derek Zarosky’s 101 votes.
The Republican primary for Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 was closer, with Stacy Cavazos receiving 773 votes to win the race. Craig Kirkpatrick finished second with 562 votes, followed by Jeanie Paulton with 155 votes.
The race for Jackson County Commissioner Precinct 4 will head to a runoff after none of the candidates received the majority required to secure the nomination outright. Blaine Joines led the field with 347 votes, followed by Russell Bloom with 257 votes. Angela Hamilton received 85 votes and Joe Chaney received 69 votes. Joines and Bloom will advance to the runoff election.
