The Texana Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas presented a Proclamation designating March as Texas History Month to Jackson County Judge Jill S. Sklar for her signature on Feb. 25. The historic month begins with a celebration of Texas independence, which was declared March 2, 1836. Other events honored during March include Sam Houston’s birthday, also on March 2 in 1793, and remembrance of Alamo heroes and Goliad heroes.
