The Texas Campaign for the Environment had a response to President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Corpus Christi.
“When Trump brags about ‘Drill, baby, Drill,’ the reality is that it has real consequences for everyday Texans. In our state, decades of fossil fuel expansion have meant higher exposure to toxic air pollution, elevated cancer and cardiovascular disease risk, and shorter life expectancy compared to national averages. Communities here live every day with the costs of becoming ‘energy dominant.’ For us, that phrase comes with exposure to more greenhouse gas emissions, more asthma, more heart disease, less available water, and more families paying with their health and quality of life. Texans deserve clean air, safe water, and an economy not built on smoke stacks that sacrifice our lives for big corporate gain,” said Brion Oaks, TCE Executive Director.
”Trump’s visit to Corpus Christi comes in the midst of a water crisis driven by our fossil fuel dependence. It comes as no surprise that his comments celebrate increased refining and exports at the expense of our most precious resource as well as our public health. We maintain that we cannot afford industrial expansion and that we need an energy transition that puts people over profit,” said Chloe Torres, TCE Coastal Bend Regional Coordinator.
