Passport scam alert

As witnessed by your District Clerk – Sharon Mathis DO NOT PAY A THIRD PARTY FROM THE INTERNET TO PREPARE YOUR PASSPORT APPLICATION! We have had three people come in over the past couple weeks that have paid two different internet sites to prepare their application and to get instructions on the next steps to secure a passport, thinking all fees were included. While the information was correct concerning the steps, the $190+ that was paid was for nothing – did NOT include the $130 charge for an actual passport book.

These sites do not actually provide your passport application to the passport agency. They charge for something that can always be done for FREE.

We have the passport application that you can fill out OR you can go to the passport website attravel.state.gov and fill one out on that site. ONLY USE THAT WEBSITE, which is free! Then our office offers the passport photo you will need and will send the application to the passport agency (fees apply).

I am very sorry the people who used these sites lost their money, so I am trying to make sure no one else falls victim to this. PLEASE do not use any website for passport applications unless it is the official passport website, which is travel.state.gov.NOTE: The two websites that were used by these people were govplus.com and hello.gov.
