Gretchen Bernabei, an author with local ties from childhood, has returned to now live and present writing workshops in an old schoolhouse located on her Edna property. Having taught middle school and high school students for over 30 years, she has developed and published various techniques that make writing, even private family letters, to be an easier task to complete.
While it has been said that “writing is a skill, not a talent, and … a skill can be improved by practice”, many fear taking up the pen. However, Ms. Bernabei, an award-winning innovator, will share some of her well-established tools with the members of Jackson County Retired School Personnel on February 16, 2026.
Join the group for some painless writing hints at the Vanderbilt Community Center (Fire Hall), located at 5955 FM 616 in Vanderbilt.
Jackson County Retired School Personnel organization’s motto of “do more to learn more” coincides with the TRTA’s aim of promoting the well-being of retired school personnel, and this program’s innovative writing techniques that will be explored will enliven and improve the status of most in attendance.
Hosting the event will be Chair Sandra Ray, who will be assisted by the following JCRSP members: Charlotte Crisp, Kathy Johnson, Carol Kolodziejczyk, Mary Belle Meitzen, Bennie Miller, Beth Reed, Marilyn Shutt, Theresa Whitehead, Lois and Jeff Woodring.
The catered meal will begin at 11:45 a.m.
Be sure to RSVP to Kathy Johnson at 361781-4004 by February 12, 2026. The meeting will include a recitation of pledges to the Texas and American flags, led by Pat Norrell and an invocation prepared by Rose Williams.
Gather a pencil; join the socializing and activities associated with the JCRSP organization on February 16, 2026 – See you there.
