Position sought: Justice of the Peace, Precinct #1 Resident of the district/precinct since: 1978 Name of spouse and children: children Alyssa Cavazos, who lives in New Braunfels and works as an accountant for a tech company in Austin; Bailey Cavazos, who lives in Edna and works at Yoakum Hospital as a phlebotomist; and Trace Cavasos, who still attends school in Edna.
Education: 1997 Edna High School graduate, 1999 Wharton County Junior College Police Academy graduate, and thousands of hours of continuing education.
Employment: Senior investigator at the Edna Police Department.
Clubs/organizations: Edna Little League treasurer for two years, National Night Out, back to school rallies, and Career Day at Edna High School.
Qualifying previous experience: two years dispatcher at Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, seven years jailer, courts, transportation, and warrants divisions at Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, eight years jail and supervision with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, 12 years patrol supervision at Edna Police Department.
Reasons seeking the position: I’ve lived in Edna my entire life, raised my family within this community, spent my entire career in law enforcement - the last 20 years being in Jackson County. I value fairness and integrity and want to instill these values in our community by serving as Justice of the Peace. I’ve always held the utmost respect and understanding for the legal system and with my experience I can remain calm, professional, and utilize my decision making skills in this role.
Other pertinent information: I understand that the Justice of the Peace must apply impartiality, ensure due process, and treat every person with dignity - regardless of background or circumstance. I have knowledge of local issues affecting residents and an understanding of the economic realities of working families, and make myself approachable and available. I am willing to make difficult, but lawful decisions without being influenced by politics, pressure, or popularity by maintaining a strong moral character and honesty.
