Texana DRT members meet

The first meeting of 2026 of the Texana Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) was on January 12 at the Farquhar Building in Edna. The program featured a presentation by Mary Meitzen on the life of A. H. Shanghai Pierce, a South Texas cattle baron in the 1800’s. Pierce made and lost several fortunes over his lifetime, but impacted Texas cattle ranching by introducing the Brahman breed in his search for fever resistant stock.

His ranch and statue still stand inWharton County.
