The Lavaca-Navidad River Authority has announced a long-term road closure on FM 3131 due to construction efforts along Farm to Market Road 3131.
The closure will be in effect from January 5, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
“The time duration of the 12-month road closure is indicative of the complexity and scope of the work to be undertaken by LNRA’s contractors and also allows time for the Department of Transportation to issue a separate contact, late summer 2026, to restore FM 3131 to the department standards before the roadways reopening in early 2027,” said General Manager Patrick Brozozowski.
Details of the Closure: Location: FM 3131 (between approximately 0.8 miles west of FM 1593 and 1.1 Miles South of FM 1822) The reason for the closure is the construction activities, which will include installing an approximate 2000’ cutoff wall beneath the road way.
Brzozowski said LNRA is implementing a dam safety project to remediate a dam safety concern on the Palmetto Bend Dam.
“Given the location of the safety concern and the scope of the remediation project, there is no non-closure alternative that would provide safe passage of the public through the construction site,” he said.
Detour Information: detour routes have been established via SH 111 and SH 172. The signage will be in place to guide drivers through the detour. Motorists are advised to expect delays and plan for additional travel time.
Brozozowski said LNRA has contracted Zachary Construction two act as the general contractor two manage the project, provide construction services and provide support services to a sub-contracted specialty provider to correct a dam safety concern.
